BRITISH telecommunications supplier GPT has won a contract to double the digital telephone network for China's largest car factory in Changchun, Jilin province.
China First Automobile Group, which runs the factory, wants to expand the residential service it provides for employees and their families.
The company is the biggest employer in Changchun, catering for the needs of 300,000 people.
GPT is supplying a remote concentrator centre, which will collect calls from remote concentrator units and send them via transmission links to the original 10,000 line digital switching system's processor.
It is expected to be operational by October. Changchun's digital network has 20,000 lines, and is to be expanded to 40,000.
GPT said it had been awarded the contract over three other companies.
