THE driver of a container truck suffered head injuries in a collision with a light rail train in Tin Shui Wai yesterday. A spokesman for the Light Railway Transit (LRT) system said she believed the truck had not followed traffic light instructions at the junction of Tin Yiu Road and Tin Fuk Road. The accident happened a week after the Coroner's Court recommended that larger, flashing traffic lights be erected accompanied by warning bells to make them clearer. The recommendations followed an inquest on a bus driver and a passenger who died on September 10 last year when a bus jumped a red light at an intersection near Siu Hong Court estate, Tuen Mun and collided with a train. A spokesman for the Transport Branch said officials were looking at the recommendations. The train collided with the truck outside Tin Shui Wai police station at 5.30am after being driven out of the Yuen Long train depot. The light-rail train service routes No 720 and No 721 were disrupted for 11/2 hours and shuttle buses between Tong Fong station and Tin Shui Wai terminal were provided.
