A RESTAURANT worker who invited a colleague to sleep at his flat awoke to discover his guest wielding a chopper.

  Lam Wai-keung, 31, woke his host then threatened him with a chopper before tying him up and robbing him.

  But two hours later, robber and victim were travelling to the Tsim Sha Tsui restaurant where they worked.

  Lam yesterday pleaded guilty at the District Court to robbery.

  On November 8 last year, restaurant assistant manager Chang Chak-wai invited Lam to view a room in his Happy Valley flat.

  Mr Chang later asked the kitchen worker to come out for dinner with himself and his flatmate. After the meal, the trio went back to the flat.

  As it was late, the assistant manager invited Lam to sleep on the sitting-room sofa.

  At about 8.30 the next morning, after the flatmate had left for work, Mr Chang awoke to discover his guest looming over his bed, threatening him with a chopper.

  Lam tied his colleague's hands behind his back with nylon string. Mr Chang was then stripped of his gold bracelet and necklace.

  When Lam approached the assistant manager armed with more twine, Mr Chang persuaded his attacker not to bind his legs.

  He then asked Lam to untie his hands. Lam complied, but demanded that Mr Chang reveal the personal identification number for his Visa card. The two men then left the flat, stopping to withdraw cash from a North Point automatic teller machine.

  At about 10.30 am, the pair went to work together where Lam proceeded to pay back $3,000 worth of debts owed to other colleagues.

  Meanwhile, Mr Chang told his boss about the kitchen worker's bizarre behaviour.

  The supervisor called the police and Lam was arrested.

  Judge Chan adjourned sentencing until June 1 pending background reports.
