HONG KONG scored a sensational 86-66 victory over favourites Guangdong to win the Schools Interport Basketball Championship in the boys' secondary section.
The annual event, held recently in the Kwun Tong Indoor Games Hall, saw Guangdong, Fuzhou, Macau and hosts Hong Kong in keen competition in both the boys' and girls' secondary sections.
Hong Kong, represented by Jing Ying champions (boys) Immaculate Heart of Mary College, was greatly strengthened with the service of Cheung Kam-chau of St Joseph's College and Lee Wai-lun of Kiangsu Chekiang College.
Hong Kong had some anxious moments in the first match against the fast-improving Macau, taking only a slender 45-40 lead at half-time.
The territory's boys, however, kept their composure and crushed the Portuguese side 72-56 to register their first win.
Hong Kong easily defeated Fuzhou 91-62 to face Guangdong in the final.
Guangdong also stamped their class by beating Fuzhou 86-51 and Macau 91-83 to strengthen their bid for the interport title.
