CONGRATULATIONS Hong Kong, you've done it again.

You are now the proud owner of the worst planned ferry pier, that is, Pier No 7, for the Cheung Chau ferry. It is amazing what a bad job can be done, by so-called experts.

There we have an open column construction, which is called the waiting area.

It would be great if Hong Kong had warm and dry weather throughout the year, but do those decision-makers in the MTR Corporation and the Hong Kong Ferry Company (HKF) know that the typhoon season is coming and that it is very cold in winter? There is absolutely no shelter for the passengers. Or are the blue and white plastic banners that are mounted five metres above the ground, supposed to protect passengers against the rain and cold? A gangway planked with stoppers prevents people dependent on wheels (those in wheelchairs, yes we do have them here, and babies in strollers) from getting off the ferry. Also there are steps everywhere and they are so narrow that it is easy to slip on them.

The ferry piers have now been split up. Whose bright idea was that? Residents of Cheung Chau (who already have to travel to Hong Kong first, to get to Lamma) cannot reach the Lamma ferry in time, because of the long distance to Pier I from where the Lamma ferry departs.

Now I hear on the news that HKF wants to increase fares.
