WE would like to assure your correspondent Mr Ron Ogden (South China Morning Post, April 28), that KMB is constantly modernising its bus fleet, trying to bring in the best vehicle models that can suit Hong Kong's unique environment.
Later this month, two air-conditioned double-deckers will replace a coach and a conventional two-axle double-decker running on route 64K. This will increase the carrying capacity and enhance service quality.
The problem of route No 51 is however related to the special conditions of Route Twisk, the main road for running the route. Given the steep slopes and sharp bends of the road, we can only use a limited number of bus types and have to modify the buses before they can be deployed to this route. All the buses of route No 51 are relatively new, with none exceeding the age of six.
We will continue to monitor the service quality of the said routes and make further improvements wherever feasible.
