WHEN people think of Polaroid, they normally think of photography and the instant camera technology that became a phenomenon of the 20th century.

But Polaroid now means more than just photography. The company has a complete division dedicated to the distribution and promotion of computer products from Polaroid and other manufacturers which, while relatively new in the Asian region, has been around for some time. This is a message the company hopes to convey by participating in this week's Computer Expo '95.

'There are a lot of people who come to these shows to pick up the latest industry trends and we think we will reach them,' said Denise Alfano, business manager for Polaroid Computing in Hong Kong.

'We think we will get out the message that Polaroid has a division of their business that is dedicated to computing. We have only been here a year so it's an important show.

'We have a 42-square-metre booth and we need twice that size for what we need to display.' Polaroid will be using the show to highlight the broad range of products which the company distributes in this region. At the centre of this is the goal of advancing electronic imaging.

'We have a particular direction and that is in the area of our core image science skills,' Ms Alfano said.
