Cartland appoints members for panel

FOUR new appointments were made to the advisory committee to the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), namely Liang Xiao-ting of Bank of China, Leong Ka-chai, chairman of the Futures Exchange, Patrick Wang of Johnson Electric, and Paul Gallagher of Jardine Fleming Holdings.

The term began yesterday and ends on May 31, 1997.

Financial Services Secretary Michael Cartland, in announcing the appointments, thanked the retiring members, Richard Margolis, Wataru Yamaguchi, Lincoln Yung and Zhou Zhen-xing for their work on the committee.

Eight of the members are reappointed for a further term.

They are Henry Cheng Kar-shun from New World Development, Henry Cheong Ying-chew from Worldsec International, lawyer Victor Chu, Henry Fan Hung-ling from CITIC Pacific, Paul Fan Chor-ho from Paul Fan Securities, Philip Gray from James Capel Asia, Kevin Westley from HSBC Investment Bank Asia, and Alex Wu Shu-chih of Fidelity.

The appointments were made by the Financial Secretary acting under delegated authority from the Governor in respect of Section 10 of the SFC Ordinance.
