THERE have recently been many arguments about voting rights being given to foreign maids. So far the Chinese Government has not expressed any objections.

We read that the new electoral arrangements are in conflict with the Basic Law.

I am concerned about one matter. Will maids who register to vote, find that this register is a permanent record? If so, will the Chinese single us out after 1997?
