A 10-YEAR-OLD boy and his younger sister were found sleeping in a dog kennel yesterday after they spent money for a haircut on food and then got too frightened to go home. The two children were reunited with their mother, cleaner Loi Kin-mui, 39, after police found them sleeping outside a Kwai Chung restaurant. Ng Ka-weng, 10, said his mother gave him $27 on Wednesday afternoon to get a haircut in Shek Lei Estate. But he decided instead to treat his eight-year-old sister, Man-yi, to a feast. 'We spent the money on four cans of soft drink and a packet of crisps at a shop downstairs. It was great,' Ka-weng said yesterday. Afterwards, the two went to Shek Yam Estate public swimming pool, not sure what to do by 6 pm. 'We were very tired and hungry. But my brother told me that we couldn't return home because my mother would beat us,' Man-yi said. 'We decided to sleep in the dog's home outside my mother's restaurant.' The children were found in Tai Loong Street by a cleaner, who alerted police at about 2.10 am. The family had called off their own search shortly after midnight, but did not call the police. 'They knew their way home,' Mrs Loi said.
