IT is gratifying to see programmers have not repeated earlier bouts of excruciating bad taste and broadcast the Jaws series, although there is still time.
The closest you will get to shark-mania is The Fox And The Sharks (World, 8.35pm), a National Geographic special which gives the shark more thoughtful coverage than it has been getting in Hong Kong.
Eye On Hong Kong (Pearl, 7.15pm) is another dying breed. John Dykes will be taking over from Geoffrey Wong as host of Pearl Movie Watch and Annemarie Wood will host a new series, with Wong, about socialites and the things they do.
This sounds feeble, but we must not jump the gun.
Wood and Wong may yet learn to master the autocue, a simple device which allows Hong Kong programme hosts to keep both hands free for adjusting their makeup.
There is nothing bad to say about The Commitments (Pearl, 9.30pm). The story of Dublin youths who believe the Irish are the blacks of Europe and form a soul band who do steady business, even though in some quarters audiences have trouble with the accents.
