Choi Muk-kwong, 47, first pleaded guilty at Eastern District Court to assaulting the guard causing actual bodily harm. Then said: 'I did not hit him deliberately.' Magistrate Alan Wright asked the prosecution and defence to see if they could agree the case's facts, particularly whether Choi had pushed the guard to the ground.

However, they were unable to do so and the defence entered a plea of not guilty.

Choi is alleged to have entered Xinhua's Happy Valley headquarters on May 19, asking for protection from triad beatings and harassment.

He was told to go to the police but he refused to leave and allegedly punched Tsui Ki-cheong, 51, injuring his left eye.

Choi insisted he pushed Mr Tsui only slightly and that the security guard had never fallen to the ground.
