THREE engineering groups have lodged design tenders for an important $8 billion highway link on the future Wan Chai reclamation.
The three groups competing for the Central-Wan Chai bypass are: Halcrow Asia Partnership with Rendel Palmer & Tritton, Mouchel Asia, Peter Fraenkel/BMT, Parsons Brinckerhoff Asia, SPB Hong Kong, ERM Hong Kong, Halcrow Fox and Urbis Travers Morgan.
Atkins Haswell with Pypun, Kennedy & Donkin International, SPB Hong Kong, ERM Hong Kong and Team 73.
Maunsell Consultants Asia with Parsons Brinckerhoff Asia, MVA Asia, EBC Hassell, CES-Consultants in Environmental Sciences amd RMJM.
The consortiums are competing to design the bypass, a Highways Department project involving a 2.3 kilometre tunnel between Central and Causeway Bay. A 700 metre section is also planned to link the convention centre to Causeway Bay.
There will also be one kilometre of dual four-lane highway and a large interchange at Causeway Bay linking the Island Eastern Corridor, Gloucester Road and Victoria Park Road.
