THE Executive Council will soon be asked to renew the franchise of China Motor Bus (CMB), the Secretary for Transport, Haider Barma, said.
But Democratic Party legislator Lee Wing-tat was swift to condemn the move, saying that franchise should not be offered to the 'poorly managed' CMB.
Mr Lee levelled a catalogue of complaints at the company, branding government negotiations over the franchise, which ends in August, as 'window dressing'.
'The CMB doesn't offer concessions to the elderly. It refuses to become involved in the smart card system. Complaints have been at a high level,' he said.
'Last year the Government required the public utilities to disclose their financial details and CMB refused to co-operate.
'How can such a poorly managed company still have its franchise extended? How bad does it have to get before the Government decides not to renew the franchise?' he said.
