Motivated by greed
DAW Aung San Suu Kyi has her birthday today, still under house arrest.
She cannot be held after July, however, I am sure the State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC), will find reason to keep her incarcerated.
So much for the constructive engagement of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
These countries have helped rekindle Burma's economy and with tourism increasing, the SLORC is emboldened and thinks that it will contain Suu Kyi.
Surely the lessons of South Africa have proved that total isolation will eventually lead to changes and this courageous woman's release. Not constructive engagement.
Once again, the policy has been dictated by greed to make money and not by conscience.
