THE Buildings Department will move to Pioneer Centre in Mongkok at the end of this year so the Government can renovate the Murray Building in Central.
The department will take up 150,000 square feet of office space on seven floors of the Mongkok building.
The lease, signed by the Financial Secretary Incorporated, is one of the largest rental deals in recent years.
Leasing agent First Pacific Davies said the seven floors taken by the Government represented more than half of the total office space in the building and left the new commercial and retail complex more than 80 per cent let.
Pioneer Centre, due for occupation next month, is built on the site of the old Pioneer Centre and Empress and Royal theatres in Nathan Road. It is the first new Grade A office building in Mongkok for a decade.
