Curb these peeping Toms

A NUMBER of people have written to these columns, complaining about the malpractices of taxi drivers. The one that concerns me the most is the use of mirrors by some cabbies.

The normal rear-view mirror is installed in the middle at the front of the car, so the driver can see the traffic out of his rear window.

However, I have found that many taxi drivers have installed another small mirror right in front of the driver's seat.

This mirror is facing downwards, so the driver can watch the passenger at the back seat instead of keeping his eyes on the road.

In summer many girls prefer to wear short skirts. With this small mirror, the taxi driver can look at more than the road behind him.

This is a serious malpractice and the relevant authority should set up regulations to stop this from happening. A driver who does this is effectively a 'peeping Tom' and he should be arrested and charged accordingly.
