ISLAND School pupil Jacklyn Fu Yan-ning's hopes of making her Wimbledon debut next month were dashed because her world ranking was not good enough to earn an acceptance for the prestigious grass court tournament.
Jacklyn started the year without a world ranking, but she made such progress that last month coach Mark Bailey was hopeful his young charge could make it to Wimbledon.
The 16-year-old was ranked 114th when she went for an ITF event in Thailand last month, a last-ditch effort to improve on her world ranking with the target being the All-England tournament.
Jacklyn, however, bowed out in the quarter-finals stage, and the points she earned only pushed her up to 102 on the standings and were not good enough to be accepted in the Wimbledon field.
Hong Kong, however, will still have two juniors at Wimbledon - John Hui Kin-yip in the boys' division and Willy Chan Lee in the girls'.
