A RUPTURED appendix left Senior Airman Rob Desfordges out on his own yesterday when he became the last patient in the British Military Hospital.
Waiting for a transfer to the Prince of Wales barracks, the 30-year-old officer, the solitary patient, said he was not sure whether he was pleased about his moment of fame or not.
The closure of the hospital in King's Park, Kowloon, after 28 years leaves the territory without a military hospital for the first time for nearly 150 years.
The approach of 1997 has resulted in the British Garrison cutting down to just 3,250 personnel.
The closure of the 28-year-old hospital yesterday followed six months of scaling down.
All military medical facilities will now be divided between the four remaining sites: the Prince of Wales Barracks, Stonecutters Island, Osborne Barracks and Sek Kong Station.
