NOEL Kennedy has been given the daunting task of carrying Hong Kong's singles hopes into the men's Pacific Championships and World Championships over the next year.

Kennedy was last night selected to play singles for Hong Kong at November's Pacific Championships in New Zealand and next March's World Championships in Adelaide, Australia.

His selection was based on his performance at last year's Hong Kong Classic when he won the singles competition against a world-class field, beating Canada's Bill Boettger in the final.

Kowloon Bowling Green Club's Kennedy replaces Ken Wallis as Hong Kong national singles player. Wallis silenced his critics at last year's Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada when he won the bronze in the men's singles competition. Wallis remains in the team, however, and is joined by fellow Kowloon Cricket Club bowlers Mel Stewart and Danny Ho in the triples team.

Also in the squad is Craigengower Cricket Club's (CCC) Willy Lai, who will partner Kennedy in the pairs event.
