Shameless advertising

I AM astounded that despite the numerous complaints I have heard and read, Carlsberg continues to air its disgraceful advert. It appears the company has no shame.

I am also still trying to swallow the futile attempt by Sylvia Lee of Bozell Advertising to defend this advert as non-sexist. It appears that men discussing women in this fashion is the norm in Hong Kong's unimaginative and chauvinist advertising industry. I cannot think of another civilised country in the world where this advert would be tolerated by, supported by and written by women. Women from other civilised countries simply have too much respect for themselves.

It is a sad situation as there are a lot of women in Hong Kong taking themselves, their careers and their rights to be judged as complete human beings very seriously and a few women in the wrong place (in the advertising industry) can undermine everything they have worked for.

It is just not acceptable for men to discuss women as sex objects in public anymore. For an advertising agency which is in the business of understanding and working with public trends and opinion, why does it appear not to understand this? Ms Lee obviously has not done her homework.

As a beer drinker myself (Bozell, believe it or not, women do drink beer) and as the main buyer of beer for my household, I will not be buying Carlsberg anymore.
