THE Hong Kong-managed Alexandria sank at the weekend after a collision with the 2,686-gross tonnes Xin Hua 7, owned by Shanghai Hai Xing Shipping.
According to news agency reports, the Liberian-flagged Alexandria, managed by Ahrenkiel Shipping, Hong Kong, was on loaded passage with 384 containers from Pusan to Keelung. All 24 crew were rescued.
The Chinese-flagged Xin Hua 7, which was on passage from Xingang to Pusan, was reported to have suffered damage to its bow and was now discharging cargo in Pusan.
A spokesman for Ahrenkiel Shipping declined to comment on the accident.
In a separate incident, two cargo ships collided in the Gulf of Mexico early on Saturday and created a 15-mile fuel slick as they drifted, locked together.
The Coast Guard did not want to pull the ships apart because one of them could sink, a news agency report said.
