MANUFACTURING establishments recorded a gross output of $311.8 billion in 1993, representing 5.9 per cent fall over 1992, according to a survey by the Census and Statistics Department.
The survey, conducted between April 1994 and early this year, showed gross surplus - net of total operating expenditure - was 11.5 per cent of the gross output in 1993, 0.1 of a percentage point lower than 1992.
The value added, which is a measure of the sector's contribution to Hong Kong's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), amounted to $91.2 billion in 1993. This represented a decrease of 6.5 per cent over 1992.
The Government warned the changes derived from the value figures expressed in current prices had not been adjusted for price changes and therefore should exercise caution in interpreting the results.
