Victims urged to report on cheats

ILLITERATE maids paid a fraction of the amount they are due after being duped by their employers into signing pay receipts have been urged to contact police.

The practice has been condemned by legislator James Tien Pei-chun as 'shameful' and he is urging victims to report such cases.

'I think the Legislative Council manpower panel should be addressing this issue, so I would encourage such victims to come in and tell us or the police what is happening.

'I'm sure a lot of Hong Kong people also end up in the same situation because they cannot read or write. It's a pity and shameful that these people are taken advantage of,' he said.

Migrant workers' groups have demanded the Government act on the problem.
