ELECTRICAL machinery and appliances, and electrical parts have comprised a major share of imports this year, amounting to $19.8 billion, an increase of 40 per cent.

In the first five months Hong Kong registered a record $73.7 billion deficit in visible trade.
The value of imports in the first five months of 1995 amounted to $582.4 billion, up 26 per cent, according to the Census and Statistics Department.
Telecoms, sound recording and reproducing apparatus, and equipment imports amounted to $11.7 billion.
In May the value of imports rose 28 per cent to $133.4 billion.

The value of domestic exports in the first five months of 1995 was $87.5 billion, up 11 per cent over the corresponding period last year.
