WINNING top honours is not uncommon among science students, but when Belilios Public School announced that two of its arts students had scored five distinctions at this year's A-Level Examination, it came as a very pleasant surprise.
Connie Lau Ho-yee, a budding musician and Rebecca Chua Sui-yee, a Chinese scholar, are the school's two arts students who did exceptionally well this year.
'I'm really glad to see such achievement in arts,' said principal Agnes Wong Li Shuen-pui.
'This will help balance the overwhelming tendency among students to prefer the science stream.' 'All-rounders' is how a proud Mrs Wong described her two scholars. Connie's class teacher Chan Sau-fong said her student was 'very confident and independent'.
'Connie wants to study music at the Chinese University and seems very confident about being accepted. Perhaps this explains why she isn't in Hong Kong today to get her results,' Ms Chan said.
Connie, who scored A(1)s in both English and Economics, A(2)s in Chinese, Business Studies, Mathematics and Statistics and B(3) in Music, is presently touring the United States.
