GOLDEN Harvest has bagged a potentially lucrative distribution deal with Hollywood's much talked-about new studio, DreamWorks SGV.
Golden Harvest has formed a joint venture company with Korean One World Media LLC - a division of the Cheil Group, which in April invested US$300 million in DreamWorks in return for an 11 per cent stake in the new studio.
The joint venture company, Golden Cheil, has concluded a deal with DreamWorks to exclusively distribute all the studio's product in Asia - excepting Japan - for the next 10 years.
The territories include India, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.
DreamWorks, founded by Steven Spielberg, David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg last October, plans to complete 25 feature films in the next four years, including its first animated feature scheduled for completion in 1988.
It has already concluded a 10-year deal for worldwide distribution with MCA, via United International Pictures (UIP), but it is now apparent that this deal excludes the territories that Golden Cheil has bagged.
