BANKS and legal and insurance companies were taking advantage of DX Group's Document Express service within Hong Kong.

  DX Group was the only company serving all of Hong Kong, said managing director Tim Slesinger.

  The group was established in Hong Kong in 1987 and expanded into the local courier market in April this year when it bought the largest local courier company, Document Express Ltd, now called DX Courier.

  DX Group's network and services were further improved this year when Guardforce, Asia's biggest security transport company, bought 50 per cent of the company.

  'DX Group is now the largest courier company in the territory, offering the widest range of express services for local distributors,' Mr Slesinger said.

  'Other express couriers target manufacturers shipping out of Hong Kong but we offer a door-to-door service, including express inside the territory.

  'Although there are more than 300 courier companies delivering locally, DX Group is the only company serving the entire territory.'   Some local express courier companies were 'fly-by-night outfits', he claimed.

  DX had built a reputation over eight years and now served some of Hong Kong's biggest banks, legal firms and insurance companies.

  Time-sensitive documents could be sent as far afield as Yuen Long and Lok Ma Chau using DX's premium express service.

  DX staff would research companies' needs and find out how often, where and when deliveries were needed before designing special packages.

  An 'on-call' service was available to companies that had accounts with DX but did not need a regular express service, Mr Slesinger said.

  The recent amalgamation with Guardforce allowed DX to create a niche by offering specialised services to deliver cheques and cash, transfer secret documents and data storage requirements.

  Ted Devereux, the chief executive of Guardforce, said: 'DX Courier complements Guardforce's security courier division, enabling both companies to offer an integrated delivery service.'   One advantage for companies using DX's express services was a state-of-the-art tracking system.

   Mr Slesinger said bar codes on every express document pouch allowed banks and legal firms to check the location of time-sensitive documents at any point during delivery.

  'Our system keeps track of more than 100,000 documents and items each day and ensures that packages are accounted for at every stage during delivery,' he said.

  'DX Courier is the first of many services that will be incorporated into the spectrum of distribution facilities developed by the group. With our Guardforce connections, we are well placed in the local market and we expect demand for DX Courier services to grow rapidly.'
