ST Teresa Secondary School held its 1995 graduation ceremony recently, an occasion that also marked the opening of the school's new language laboratory.

Special guest Ms Elaine L. K. Chung, Deputy Director of Education, observed that the school had achieved consistent pass rates, far above the Hong Kong average, in Chinese, English and Mathematics in the HKCEE.

'This is really something to be proud of,' she said. 'You have already adopted the value-added approach in teaching which I proposed in May this year.', Ms Chung advised graduates to work hard on languages, both English and Chinese, and to read widely in order to broaden their knowledge. She also reminded the students that school life was more than studying - one should make use of extra-curricular activities which helped in overall development.

Such activities made one strong in mind and body, and built up one's social skills - thus preparing one for a healthy, rewarding life, Ms Chung said.

In her welcoming speech, the school supervisor, Sister Esther Ling, commended the retiring principal, Ms Hilda Kwan, for her dedication to the school and sound leadership over the past 17 years.

Her concern for the students' welfare and needs was reflected in her determination to build the school extension and the language laboratory, Sister Ling said.
