BANK of China Group (BOC) defended the reliability of its automatic teller machine (ATM) service after a break-down of its ATM linkage with Jetco, a network with more than 1,200 ATMs in Hong Kong.
Jetco was notified that there was an 'abnormal disconnection' between BOC's electronic data processing (EDP) unit and Jetco's computer from 4.18pm and 6.22pm last Sunday.
During the disconnection, Jetco users could not access BOC computers for any transaction.
Assistant general manager of the EDP centre of BOC Choi Shun-tai said the breakdown was an exceptional case.
The bank's service was most reliable, adding that its ATMs did not report any problems.
'The linkage problem has been solved, and it will never happen again,' Mr Choi said.
