A HEROIN addict who terrorised two stallholders at Western Market to get quick cash to support his $300-a-day drug habit was jailed for 21/2 years by the District Court yesterday.
The case comes one day after newly released crime figures suggest offences committed by drug addicts desperate for cash are on the increase.
Deputy Judge L. D'Almada Remedios challenged the idea that addiction to drugs could be put forward as mitigation.
'If that is the case we would have to excuse all of them,' she said.
The judge rejected a suggestion by Louis Fung, defending, that Lo Kam-ming be sent to the Drug Addiction Treatment Centre.
'These are heinous offences and the public is entitled to be protected from people like this defendant,' she said.
