Air monitoring figures

THE air monitoring figures we report today are alarming. But an even worse prospect lurks behind them. In terms of air quality, July and August are among the cleanest months, due to rain washing away dust and dirt. From September onwards, things will get steadily worse.

This only underlines the need for action. Over the past two weeks, we have been warning of the effects of filthy air. Today, the figures from Causeway Bay produce the evidence to back up the widespread concern. The minds of civil servants and legislators may be on their holidays this weekend, but this problem should top their list of priorities when they return.
