COMPANIES are bombarding government switchboards for more information on the Mandatory Provident Fund.
The Education and Manpower Branch, the office handling the registration of occupational retirement schemes, has fielded the calls.
The majority came from firms launching a voluntary retirement scheme as stipulated by the Occupational Retirement Scheme Ordinance.
Assistant Secretary for Education and Manpower, Cheung Chor-yung, said he had received calls asking whether the October 15 deadline set for registration of schemes under the ordinance was for the mandatory fund scheme.
An officer handling registration of the ordinance regulated schemes said there was concern about the link between the twoschemes.
Companies operating an occupational retirement scheme have been urged to register before the deadline.
