MORE than 1,000 fans flocked to Kowloon City Plaza to support their idols in the final of an academic quiz recently.

  The 'Sea, Land and Air General Knowledge Quiz', organised by Radio 1 of Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), was aimed at encouraging members of the public to take part in healthy activities this summer.

  Each of the three finalists was teamed up with a singer to compete for the championship.

  Other pop stars were also invited to perform at the quiz.

  The singers, including Alex To Tak-wai, Nadia Chan Chung-ling, Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Hacken Lee and Chan Wai-lam, belted out their latest hits on stage.

  The competition's director, Fung Wai-tong, said the station launched the quiz to encourage the public to try out healthy and enriching activities during the long summer vacation.

  'Inviting celebrities to join the contest helps to raise interest among the public,' he said. 'We have a series of programmes lined up for different age groups.'   The '1995 Keep Your Public Housing Estate Clean Campaign' will be held at the Lok Fu Shopping Centre on Tuesday to spread the message of hygiene and environmental cleanliness. 'Cleanliness Stars' Cass Phang and Hacken Lee will demonstrate how to keep the household and environment clean.

  A 'Decent Life Concert' will be held at South Horizons on August 23 to promote civic education among youths.
