MOVES are afoot to change the playing format for the territory's premier competition, the Sunday League, which starts on September 18.
The Hong Kong Cricket Association (HKCA) is in the process of seeking the views of the clubs with the idea of adopting traditional limited-over rules for the 1995-96 season.
The HKCA has proposed that the Sunday League be played according to International Cricket Council rules with fielding circles and with each side able to bowl 50 overs.
However, in a twist to normal ICC rules, the HKCA has proposed that bowlers be allowed to bowl 13 overs so that weaker sides need to find only four bowlers. The other variation is that declarations be allowed, but with maximum overs remaining at 50 to be faced - and with balance overs not carried over to the innings of the side batting second.
But the HKCA questionnaire was vague on whether or not bonus points would remain for batting and bowling or if the winning/losing draw system which has been in effect in past seasons would be retained.
A random telephone survey among cricketers, carried out by Sports Post yesterday, showed mixed feelings towards the planned changes.
While some cricketers were all for playing under proper international rules, others said that the Hong Kong cricket scene called for the winning/losing draw points system to remain.
