AN elderly woman was forced to leave her home in an old Kowloon City building yesterday after the ceiling fell in during torrential rains.
Elsewhere, three cars plunged into a 30-metre-long mud-filled hole at the side of the road after a Clear Water Bay Road pavement collapsed.
By 7 pm last night, the Royal Observatory had recorded 70.2 mm of rainfall. But it said there was better weather on the horizon.
Pang Kwai-ching, 62, left her home after part of the ceiling fell in.
'Although the ceiling started to peel off many years ago, I'm very frightened this time because the wet electrical wires are hanging above my head,' she said.
'The police said it was dangerous and told me to stay away from the room. I need to live with my relatives for a couple of days now.' Tse Fat-chiu, who has lived in a nearby room for 21 years, was hit by leaks too. He was worried the ceiling would fall in again. 'I have nowhere to go,' said Mr Tse, who has been using buckets to collect rainwater.
Ms Pang added: 'The owner repaired the ceiling more than 10 years ago, but fragments started falling down after about five years.
