THE Hong Kong shipping register will receive one of its biggest boosts with the transfer of up to 12 container ships managed, or expected to be managed, through Hong Kong by Coldwell Ship Management.
Coldwell Ship Management, which is the ship management arm of Eastbourne Holdings, initially will switch seven container ships totalling more than 160,000 dwt from the Bahamas, Liberia and Panama to Hong Kong, the shipping daily Lloyds List reported.
It said the figure would rise with the decision to place a further two intended acquisitions of 1,000-TEU capacity on the register.
The total tonnage injection could reach more than 300,000 dwt.
All the vessels involved in the switch to Hong Kong are or will be owned by companies in the Eastbourne Holdings group.
Eastbourne's parent company is Griffin Shipping Holdings, which is listed on the Johannesburg stock exchange.
