Top students know it all, and more

THE top Form Five graduates showed that they are not only well-acquainted with academic knowledge, but that they also keep up with current affairs.

The top four science students at Queen's College who all scored the maximum of 10 A grades in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, said the social issues they were concerned about ranged from education and unemployment to the divergence of political parties in Hong Kong.

Choi Yat-lun, 17, was worried that the unofficial unemployment rate was as high as 11 per cent, while Yeung Yin-tak, 17, suggested the best solution was to stop importing labour.

Schoolmate Ieong Sze-ming, 17, said: 'Some political parties claim they are democratic, but they are different parties. They should unite together and serve Hong Kong,' he said.

Chiang Mung, 18, focused on education, saying: 'If the Government is willing to expand the quotas for tertiary education, why can't it improve elementary education? The reform of nine-year free education is more fundamental and important.' When asked to evaluate Governor Chris Patten from one to 10 points, Chiang gave him full marks for his role as a politician.

'I'd also give Hitler and Mao Zedong 10 points for that.
