France's Perec wins 400m gold

MARIE-JOSE Perec, of France, won the women's 400 metres at the World Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden in 49.29s. Pauline Davis, of the Bahamas, was second and American Jearl Miles third.

In the high jump, Troy Kemp, of the Bahamas, took gold on a countback from Javier Sotomayor, of Cuba, after clearing 2.37 metres.

Wilson Kipketer, running for Denmark, won the 800 metres in 45.08s.
