INDONESIAN television station Surya Citra Televisi (SCTV) has agreed to sponsor Hong Kong's Olympic qualifying round home match against Indonesia on August 26. The privately-owned SCTV will broadcast the match at the Mongkok Stadium live with local television station TVB providing the satellite signal. A senior official of the ISL Asia-Pacific, the marketing agents of the Hong Kong Football Association, revealed details of the deal yesterday. 'SCTV is a new television station and they are very interested in promoting international sports events,' said ISL sales and marketing director Guy Horne. 'They have promised to find some Indonesian companies to sponsor the match as well.' Horne said they had already secured some sponsors for the HKFA's group sponsorship project and would announce them in two weeks' time. He also confirmed that there would be no title sponsor for the territory's First Division this season and it would be called the Hong Kong First Division League. Local brewery San Miguel, who sponsored the FA Cup last season, were very keen in backing the competition again this season, according to Horne. 'San Miguel will pay more than they did last season and I hope we can finalise the deal early next month.' ISL has been trying to finalise the sponsorship deal of the Viceroy Cup and met officials from British-American Tobacco (BAT) yesterday. But Horne said nothing had been agreed since BAT is still considering the terms and conditions. He added the Challenge Shield had not attracted any major sponsor yet. Meanwhile, the HKFA proposed yesterday to group the three Interport Cups, which features Guangdong, Shanghai and Macau, with matches set for January.
