HONG KONG'S Bimblegumbie '97 finally completed the 605-mile Fastnet race of the Admiral's Cup, crossing the finish line in Plymouth to finish sixth on corrected time in the Big Boats division. In one of the slowest Fastnet races on record, Great Britain's Group 4 Seahorse won the race - the final leg of the Admiral's Cup regatta - on corrected time, ahead of Germany's Pinto with Scandinavia's Mean Machine third. Italy's Capricorno and South Africa's Sansui Challenge were the other boats ahead of Hong Kong's entry on corrected time. The ILC 40 class was won by Pasquale Landolfi's Italian entry Brava Q8, followed by Pigs In Space, David Clarke's American entry. South Africa's Sansui Express was third. Karl Kwok's Beau Geste finished seventh out of eight boats for Hong Kong. The Mumm 36 division race had yet to finish last night (Hong Kong time), but Italy's Paolo Gaia and his Mumm A'Mia was leading the field and was expected to finish first, providing Italy with their first Admiral's Cup victory after 40 years of trying. Hong Kong's Corum Cup Hong Kong was fifth as the fleet headed towards the finish line.
