A GANG of young men tried to rape a schoolgirl in the back of their car after a night of karaoke and drinking, a court heard yesterday. Shing Wai-kwan, 22, was allegedly found lying on top of the semi-naked teenager by patrolling police, the jury was told. His friend, Hui Lai-cheuk, 18, was pinning her legs down and there were condoms all round the car, the Crown alleged. Police said the teenager was semi-conscious and her pants had been yanked down to her ankles. Prosecutor Laura Millar told the court how police officers had arrived on the scene after spotting two vehicles parked in a desolate spot on Tsing Yi Island at 3.45 am on September 27 of last year. 'The girl was lying in the back seat in a state described as dull and muddled,' she told the High Court. 'Her lower body was completely unclothed apart from a pair of pants dangling from her ankle. 'Hui Lai-cheuk was holding the girl's legs while Shing Wai-kwan was lying on top of her with his jeans and underpants pulled down to thigh level. 'Only Shing Wai-kwan was caught in the act - quite literally caught with his trousers down. Hui Lai-cheuk was actively assisting him by holding the girl's legs.' Ms Millar said Shing and two other men, Wong Pak-hung, 23, and Leung Kam-tong, 22, admitted to police they had tried to have intercourse with the teenager. The four defendants have all pleaded not guilty to attempted rape. The girl had celebrated her 16th birthday only days before. She told how she went out for an evening of karaoke with girlfriends and got chatting to the men. She left the bar after 11.30 pm with Wong, Shing and Hui and a girlfriend who was dropped off on the way, the court heard. The men then drove to a dumping ground in Cheung Wan Road where Leung rejoined them. The girl said she fell asleep on the back seat after drinking more beer and the next thing she remembered was seeing police round the car. The trial before Mr Justice Sears continues.
