I REFER to the letter from A. Williams (South China Morning Post, August 8) on the subject of Filipina domestics in Statue Square.
There are about 140,000 domestic helpers in Hong Kong - I don't think it is realistic to expect them all to go to Ocean Park, or the Outlying Islands.
The difference between domestic helpers here and Mr Williams' 25,000 Pakistanis outside Buckingham Palace, is that the Pakistanis in London generally live in their own homes rather than one room in someone else's home, and do not have one day off every week.
With regard to the domestic helpers doing something else on a Sunday, we have organised a big variety show featuring internationally known Filipino singers and comedians.
The event takes place at the Hong Kong Stadium on Sunday, October 1 and we are expecting enlightened employers to provide their maids with a ticket in order that at least on this day they will have something to do other than 'doss outside the Legco building' (tel: 2869 1235, fax: 2868 4474).
