TENNIS officials have approached the Hong Kong Sports Institute to build clay courts at the Sha Tin complex.
After a recent tour of Europe, Hong Kong Tennis Association official Colin Sankey said that local juniors, used to playing on hard courts, find it difficult to adjust to the European clay.
HKTA president Philip Kwok said: 'We would very much like to have some clay courts for the juniors. We have a very good crop of players at all ages and it is our job to ensure they can have the best facilities.' The HKSI currently has up to 14 hard courts and two makeshift indoor artificial courts.
On the court, Hong Kong's Wayne Wong beat top-seeded Argentinian Guillermo Coria 7-6, 6-4 to reach the last 16 of the TAGA tournament in Gruissan, France. Tong Ka-po also reached the last 16 in the women's event.
