A SOCIAL worker charged with assaulting a policewoman during a protest testified yesterday that she felt insulted when a policeman grabbed her by the collar.
Lai Yuen-mai, 27, was taking part in a March 17 protest outside Citibank Tower in Central against the eviction of rooftop residents.
When the protest turned rowdy, police moved in. Lai said she did not expect them to use violence. 'My mind was blank and I felt insulted,' she said.
Lai was charged with assaulting Constable Chow Yin-tung, 24, after the policewoman allegedly grasped her right hand. Lai lost balance and fell down and it was then that the policeman allegedly grabbed her.
Lau Chi-pui, 34, and Leung Yiu-chan, 37, face three counts of assaulting police and two security guards. All three deny the charges. The Western Court hearing continues.
