WE refer to the letter from 'Name and Address Supplied', regarding the service of route No 101 (South China Morning Post, August 1).

  KMB operates this cross-harbour tunnel route in conjunction with the China Motor Bus Company (CMB).

  Our morning departures from Kwun Tung are scheduled between 6 to 7.15am and 8.40 to 9.55.

  The rest of the morning service is run by CMB.

  We fully understand passengers' aspiration for an air-conditioned service, especially for the tunnel routes. Out of the 18 KMB double-deckers despatched for route No 101, 14 are air-conditioned buses.

  We have proposed to the Transport Department that a full air-conditioned operation be allowed for this route. This proposal however, has not yet been approved.

  Apart from route No 101, passengers at the Hunghom Cross-Harbour Tunnel heading for Kennedy Town can also consider taking the No 104 service. The two routes together offer a combined frequency of two to three minutes.

  As passenger safety is our primary concern, we require our bus captains and outdoor staff to strictly observe the carrying capacity.

  This however also requires the co-operation of passengers.

  The expedient measure of letting passengers board at the exit gate is to speed up the boarding and definitely not to overload the bus.

  KMB is committed to provide a quality bus service to the people of Hong Kong. Comments and suggestions from passengers are more than welcome, as they will help us understand their genuine needs and enable us to further improve our service.
