TELEVISION Broadcasts Limited (TVB) have announced plans to televise more local matches in the coming season.
TVB sports productions executive James Kwong said yesterday that a new half-hour programme on local soccer would be screened every Friday night on Jade, in addition to the regular Sunday morning show Soccer Fans' World.
'TVB has always been very enthusiastic in showing more football programmes - both local and overseas ones,' Kwong said.
Kwong also said there would be more live coverage of important local league and cup matches in the new season.
'Last season, we did the three cup finals - Senior Shield, Viceroy Cup and FA Cup - live and also the Guangdong-Hong Kong Interport Cup, the Dynasty Cup and the Carlsberg Cup.
'This season we will do big league matches as well. But we have to discuss it with the Hong Kong Football Association (HKFA).
'We have to be very careful on this since according to our previous deals, we had to pay for the vacant seats at those matches where we did live coverage.' ISL Asia-Pacific, the marketing partner of the HKFA, also welcome TVB's plan.
