THERE are no Hong Kong clubs willing to host Diego Maradona's Boca Juniors in the territory even though the Buenos Aires club will be touring Asia in October. The reason: Boca Juniors are demanding a $5 million appearance fee.
Maradona ends his world-wide ban imposed during the 1994 World Cup finals for failing a dope test in September but the territory will miss out on his return because of the appearance fee which Hong Kong agents are shying away from.
Boca Juniors will tour South Korea beginning on October 1 and are likely to add a few more cities to their schedule on their proposed tour.
'Their appearance fee is much too high for us and we won't be pursuing them,' said a Hong Kong agent.
Boca Juniors became the glamour club of Argentina with the signing of Maradona and former Argentinian national teammate Claudio Caniggia in July.
Maradona will stay with Boca Juniors, the team he led to championship glory in 1981, until December 1997 while Caniggia has a contract with the club until June 1996.
