EMC's big success in the Philippines
ACCORDING to a recent International Data Corp (IDC) report, EMC Corp has captured 80 per cent of the Philippines' high-end data storage market just two years after entering it.
Rick Wojcik, general manager for EMC Asia/Far East, said: 'We have sold our Symmetrix Integrated Cached Disk Array [ICDA] DASD systems to eight out of the nine banks in the Philippines, and also to a number of major insurance companies, including Philippine American Life Insurance. The ninth bank is currently investigating EMC data storage options.
'This is especially significant considering the tight economic conditions the Philippines has been experiencing over the past few years, and the substantial cost of investing in high-end data storage equipment.' Mr Wojcik said the key factors leading to this large market share in such tight economic conditions include the way in which the Symmetrix provide quantifiable cost benefits for organisations and even helps generate revenue.
'Effective use of corporate information provides big dividends to almost any organisation,' Mr Wojcik said.
'Fast, reliable and feature-rich storage solutions, such as Symmetrix, are capable of helping companies maximize the use of their information and therefore boost the bottom-line.
'In the Philippines, many companies have quickly discovered that EMC's Symmetrix solutions provided the most 'bang for their bucks.
