JAPANESE computer-maker NEC has announced that it will be launching its new notebook computer, the Versa 2000C.
According to Perry Chan, senior manager of the computer systems group at NEC Hong Kong, the Versa 2000C will be available in the territory this week.
The Versa 2000C features a 9.5 inch TFT display, supporting 64,000 colours at a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The thin-film transistor (TFT) or active-matrix display is the best there is at this time.
For those looking for something that is clear and crisp, this is ideal.
The cheaper dual-scan does not have the same clarity but it does have one unforeseen virtue: you must be directly in front of the screen to be able to read it. This means that you can prevent the person next to you on an aircraft from reading your screen.
The lithium battery is expected to give up to five hours of power.
The keyboard is recessed so that palm rests can be provided and the mouse is based on a track-pad that NEC is calling a VersaGlide. The processor is an Intel DX4 75 megahertz chip. The hard disk can hold up to 720 MB and there is also a 1.44 MB 3.5 inch floppy drive. The Versa 2000C will take two PCMCIA Type II cards or one PCMCIA Type III card.
